    To promote interaction between basic biomedical science and clinical research, the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the ANU College of Health and Medicine may offer an annual Doherty PhD Supplementary Scholarship. The scholarship is intended to draw highly qualified students with clinical backgrounds to pursue postgraduate studies at the JCSMR that involve a clinical research project. The prize was created in honour of Professor Peter Doherty, who, together with Professor Rolf Zinkernagel, earned the 1996 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine for work done at JCSMR.

    Eligibility for ANU Doherty PhD Supplementary Scholarship:

    The award will be granted annually to the following candidates:

    • A prospective or continuing student who is awarded and continues to hold an Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP) Stipend Scholarship, or a similar living expenses PhD scholarship.
    • A prospective or continuing student who is enrolled or enrolling full-time in a Doctor of Philosophy program at the John Curtin School of Medical Research
    • A prospective or continuing candidate who has an Australian Bachelor Honors degree with First Class Honours, or an equivalent, and has research publications and/or relevant research experience.

    Value of ANU Doherty PhD Supplementary Scholarship:

    The scholarship provides a top-up of $10,000 per annum paid fortnightly in arrears for 3 years or in line with the student's base stipend.

    Application Process:

    All eligible students will automatically be considered; no further scholarship application is needed.
