The W.E.B. Du Bois Fellowship honors achievement in scholarship in any area, especially among Black academics, and is available to African American/Black graduate and professional students (except for those studying in the health sciences). Dr. William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, who graduated with a doctorate from Harvard University in 1896, is honored by the fellowship. Competition for admission is based on academic standing and likelihood of achievement in graduate or professional studies.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Nominees must be US citizens or permanent residents.
- Nominees must be African-American/Black.
- Nominees must have completed an application for on-campus, fall 2023 admission to a Ph.D. program, J.D., or a College of Creative Arts graduate program at the time the fellowship nomination is submitted. Health Sciences doctoral students may not be nominated for this fellowship.
- Nominees must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 for undergraduate or 3.5 for graduate coursework.
Value of the Fellowship:
- The Du Bois Fellowships provide an annual stipend of USD 19,000, waiver of University tuition, and graduate student health insurance coverage.
Note: The candidates cannot apply for this fellowship. They must be nominated by the academic faculty.
