Research Grants - Bi-nationally Supervised Doctoral Degrees / Cotutelle (India) 2024

This program offers the opportunity to do a bi-national doctoral degree at the home university and a university in Germany. Funding is provided for doctoral projects that are carried out at the home university and a university in Germany according to the so-called Cotutelle model. This is based on an individual cooperation agreement which is concluded individually for your doctoral project by the participating universities. 

Eligibility Criteria:

• Applicants must be Indian nationals.
• bi-national supervision based on the 'sandwich model'
  • Applicants must have earned a Master’s degree or Diploma at the latest at the start of the funding period.
• 'Cotutelle model'
  • Applicants must have been admitted to a doctoral program at the latest at the start of the funding period.

Application Process:

• Interested candidates must apply online for the scholarship.
• The candidates must submit the supporting documentation as and when requested by the provider.

Value of the Scholarship:

• Selected candidates are awarded the following benefits:
  • A monthly payment of EUR 1,300 during the stay in Germany.
  • A research allowance of EUR 460,
  • Travel allowances for up to three outward and return journeys,
  • Payments towards health, accident, and personal liability insurance cover,
  • Travel and accommodation expenses according to the German Federal Travel Expenses Law for the supervising university teachers for one trip of up to 10 days.
