University of Essex Disabled Student's Allowance (DSA) Laptop Contribution Fund 2024-25
- The University offers a £200 contribution towards the cost of laptops for students with disabilities who need one for their studies and have a low household income.
- This fund is a reimbursement scheme, meaning payment will be made only after the purchase.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Current full-time or part-time student at the University of Essex.
- Home fee-paying student, ordinarily resident in the UK (overseas students are not eligible).
- Must have undertaken a Study Needs Assessment (SNA) and not previously claimed a laptop reimbursement.
- The recommended laptop must be purchased through the approved supplier and outlined in the DSA approval letter.
- Annual household income of up to £25,000, as assessed by Student
- Finance or other UK student funding providers.
Ineligible Students:
- Overseas fee-paying students.
- Students not in attendance or on assessment-only programmes.
- Sponsored students (e.g., employer-sponsored courses).
- Distance learning students.
- Part-time, short course, or students studying through a University of
- Essex Partner (e.g., Kaplan, Tavistock).
- Students on Higher/Degree Apprenticeships.
Required Evidence:
- Invoice/receipt for the laptop purchase.
- DSA eligibility letter showing equipment recommendations.
- Student Finance England notification letter or equivalent reference.
- Household income evidence (e.g., P60 or Statement of Earnings from HMRC).
- If household income is zero or if an emergency tax code is applied, a Statement of Earnings is required instead of the P60.
