New York State Military Enhanced Recognition Incentive and Tribute (MERIT) Scholarship

Eligibility

The New York State Military Enhanced Recognition Incentive and Tribute (MERIT) Scholarship is available to:

• Children, spouses, or financial dependents of U.S. Armed Forces or state-organized militia members who died or became severely and permanently disabled in military service after August 2, 1990, while New York State residents.
• Students must:Be enrolled at an approved postsecondary institution in New York State.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent (TASC/GED).
• Be a full-time student (12 or more credits per semester).
• Be matriculated in an approved program of study and in good academic standing.
• Not be in default on any state or federal student loans or repayments of state awards.

Application Process

To apply for the NYS MERIT Scholarship, students must:

• Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
• Submit the TAP on the Web application.
• Complete and submit the MERIT Scholarships Web Supplement.
  Print, sign, and submit the web supplement, along with any required documentation as instructed.
