In recognition of Sebastian Black's exceptional contributions to the University of Auckland throughout his tenure as an English Department instructor from 1966 to 2000, the Sebastian Black Prize was instituted in 2000. Funding for the Prize comes from a fund established by the Department, with contributions from friends, graduates, and coworkers.
Eligibility for Sebastian Black Prize in English 2025:
- The Sebastian Black Prize in English will be awarded annually to the full-time student achieving the highest aggregate of marks in two Stage I English courses at the University of Auckland.
- As a minimum standard, the student must have achieved an A- grade in each course.
Application Process:
Students do not need to apply for this scholarship, award, or prize or complete an online application form. It is awarded on the recommendation of the relevant faculty or University of Auckland committee.
