Nathaniel R. and Valerie Dumont Scholarship
The Nathaniel R. and Valerie Dumont Scholarship is designed to assist undergraduate students with financial need, with priority given to students who are visually impaired or have physical impairments. The scholarship was established in 1993 to support students at specific California State University (CSU) campuses.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Priority Consideration:
- Strong consideration is given to students who are visually impaired or have physical impairments.
- Students without these impairments may also be eligible.
Academic Standing:
- Must be in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale.
Financial Need:
- Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the campus financial aid office.
Enrollment Status:
- Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in any major field at one of the eligible CSU campuses and remain a full-time student during the academic year.
Verification of Impairment (if applicable):
- Visually or physically impaired applicants must provide verification from a licensed physician or the office of services for students with disabilities.
Award Value
Award Amount:
- $5,000 will be awarded to each of the eight selected students for the academic year.

- Interested applicants should contact the financial aid department at their CSU campus for information on the application process.
Nomination by Campus:
- The eligible campuses (CSU Dominguez Hills, CSU Long Beach, CSU Los Angeles, and CSU Northridge) can nominate up to three students each.
Nominee Submission:
- Once selected, the campus financial aid office will submit nominated applicants to the CSU Foundation.
Applicants must submit the following:
- Personal Statement (300 words for each of the following questions):What experience has impacted your personal growth?
- Provide an example of service beyond the classroom. Why is this example significant to you?
Verification of Impairment (if applicable):
- If the applicant is visually or physically impaired, verification from a licensed physician or the office of services for students with disabilities must be provided.
