Graduate Program in Medical Sciences Scholarships totaling $6,500 are offered to students enrolled full-time in the Medical Sciences Graduate Program (MSGP) of the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. These scholarships are intended to supplement the stipend of students pursuing thesis-based MSc or PhD degrees.
Eligibility for Medical Science Graduate Program Scholarship at the University of Alberta:
- The student must be enrolled full-time in the Medical Sciences Graduate Program (MSc or PhD) in one of the following departments within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, or accepted to begin in the forthcoming Winter semester as a thesis-based graduate student:

- Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine
- Dentistry
- Medical Genetics
- Obstetrics & Gynecology
- Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences
- Pediatrics
- Radiology & Diagnostic Imaging
- Students studying MatCH are qualified to apply for this grant.
- Applications for this scholarship are not accepted from MD/PhD students.
- It is prohibited for recipients of this award to hold (i) any other large stipend award ($13,000 or more) or (ii) any other support from the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (such as the Motyl Graduate Studentship, the 75th Anniversary Award, etc.) at the same time.
- The MSGP Scholarship must be given up, and the student and/or supervisor must notify the Office of Research in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry if the recipient accepts another major award ($13,000 or greater) from any source, or other funding from the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
- Students may get this honor more than once.
- If the student completes their program or stops being enrolled full-time, the award will be revoked.
