The Higher Education Scholarship Test (HEST) 2024 is India’s largest scholarship test which primarily focuses on assisting students in pursuing their higher education abroad and who require scholarships.  

It is an initiative designed by WeMakeScholars, an organization funded and supported by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) under the Digital India campaign to help Indian students with aspirations of studying abroad.

Based on the overwhelmingly positive response received for HEST 2023 with over 10,000+ applications, HEST 2024 strives to provide a much bigger chance for deserving students who wish to fulfill their academic aspirations on an international level but stop due to financial constraints. 

HEST 2024 Scholarship Amount  

This year HEST has allocated a scholarship fund of 2 Crore INR, with individual scholarships going up to 3 lacs INR each. 

Note: The exact amount awarded as a scholarship to each recipient will depend on the quality and quantity of applications received, which ensures that the most deserving candidates are supported to the largest extent. 

HEST Eligibility Criteria

Here are the HEST Eligibility Criteria you need to meet to apply for the test:

  1. The applicant must be an Indian citizen who is planning to study abroad within the next 12 months (in 2024). 
  2. The foreign university admission confirmation must be provided upon receiving the scholarship. It is not mandatory at the time of application.
  3. The applicant must have achieved a minimum score of 55% in both their 10th and 12th grades.
  4. The scholarship will be awarded to students pursuing Bachelor, Master, MBA, and Diploma programs. 
    Note: This scholarship does not apply to students pursuing MBBS, MD, or PhD courses
  5. Students who are self-funding their education will not be able to apply for the scholarship. HEST intends to assist those who are less financially capable students who plan to pay their overhead costs, tuition, accommodation, and transportation through loans.

Test Details 

The HEST 2024 will be taken online and participants can take the test from the comfort of their homes. Here are the requirements and other details: 

  1. You would need a PC, phone, or laptop. 
  2. Dates: August 24, 2024, through August 28, 2024
  3. Timings: 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM 
  4. Duration: 40 minutes

HEST Syllabus

These are the 4 sections HEST tests the students on:

  1. Verbal Ability 
  2. Reading Comprehension
  3. Quantitative Aptitude 
  4. Logical Reasoning. 

HEST Selection Criteria and Interview

  1. Once the test is completed, students who demonstrate proficiency in the test will be contacted by email to come for an interview with the Scholarship Committee. 
  2. Successful candidates in this final interview will be awarded the scholarship

The HEST Campus Delegate Internship Program

The HEST Campus Delegate Internship Program is a six-week internship aimed at spreading study abroad funding awareness for students within their college campus. in which the time commitment required from the students is 1-2 hours per week so that they can complete this internship while attending their classes or other obligations. 

The participants will be issued a certificate of completion along with the Digital India Campaign logo which increases the chances of employment due to the endorsement on the CVs in addition to the acquired experience. The participants who perform outstandingly in this program may also be awarded cash for the extent of their efforts put into marketing HEST and studying abroad.
